Portuguese 3

Course Overview:

In this Portuguese 3 online course, students will become familiar with Portuguese-speaking countries’ ethnic foods, talk about favorite foods, order food, plan a menu, plan a trip, go shopping, discuss environmental issues and relationships, and describe future events. The instructors will foster and support students’ growing ability to compare culinary traditions, typical foods, and perspectives of Portuguese-speaking countries. The main grammatical focus of the course is the use of the present, past and future subjunctive; the imperative; the infinitive; the conditional; the future tense including the future present indicative and subjunctive; indefinite pronouns; adverbs; commands; and reflexive verbs and pronouns.

The central themes of the course are typical foods, traditional dishes, shopping, traveling, transportation, relationships with friends and family, emigration, immigration, and environmental preservation. The student learning outcomes of this level are to be able to order food at a restaurant or café; go shopping for goods and groceries; plan a trip; compare, discuss, and share opinions; offer suggestions and advice; talk about expectations; express wishes and hopes; express doubts and uncertainty; and give tips, advice and instructions.
