How Academics Work at Holston
Each student receives a Personalized Learning Plan created by their Academic Coach. Students can select from more than 300 online courses in our catalog, including middle school, college prep, honors, Advanced Placement®, and Dual Enrollment and work through courses at their own pace. Teachers are available to provide personalized support and feedback.

Mixing full-time enrollment at his local public school and part-time courses with Holston Academy allows Daniel to prepare for his college-bound goals of studying engineering.
Our Curriculum
Students can choose from more than 300 online courses in our course catalog including middle school, college prep, honors, Advanced Placement® (AP), and Dual Enrollment. Academic Coaches help students select the best courses for their abilities and future goals when developing their Personalized Learning Plan.
Upper School
Our Upper School is not your typical high school. Students are encouraged to take ownership over their education and learn future-ready skills. They are paired with an Academic Coach, teachers, and college counselor who provide support of their online coursework and future goals through their Personalized Learning Plan.
Middle School
Holston Academy Middle School students work closely with their Academic Coach to create a Personalized Learning Plan that helps them prepare for Upper School, and begin to think about their future goals. Middle School students can choose to take Upper School level online courses and receive academic support from teachers who are subject-matter experts.
Part Time Courses
Students interested in supplementing their current course load may choose to enroll in a single online course at Holston Academy. Our course options include fun electives, honors, Advanced Placement®, and World Languages. Students receive an accredited transcript from Holston Academy upon successful completion of their courses.
Summer Program
Online summer courses can be leveraged to allow students to get ahead in a subject area or make up a course from the previous school year. Students are paired with teachers for each course who are subject-matter experts. Summer courses are credit bearing and a semester course can be taken in just four weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Holston Academy is fully accredited by Cognia and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). Many of our courses are also NCAA approved and UC a-g approved.
Yes, Holston Academy offers many Advanced Placement® courses. View our course catalog for a complete list of AP® courses.
For students enrolled in AP® course through Holston Academy, it is the responsibility of the family to find a testing location near them to take the AP® exam.
Yes, we offer ACT and SAT test prep courses.
Holston Academy has a partnership to offer dual enrollment courses through Arizona State University. Holston Academy will also support students with the application process who may choose to enroll at a local community college or university.
All coursework is done online with the exception of some elective courses and Advanced Placement® (AP) courses which require additional materials for students to purchase. Required materials for each course are noted in the course description within our course catalog.
Students take part in simulations and labs that require standard items found in most kitchens. In some cases, students participate in dry labs.

Yes, students enrolled in our tier 2 program receive near-peer college counseling services. Students enrolled in our tier 1 program or part-time students can add these services for a fee. Contact our Admissions Department for more information.
