Cybersecurity II

Course Overview:

Cybersecurity II is a one-semester online course offered through Holston Academy for students in grades 9–12 who want to expand their knowledge of cybersecurity, network security, and digital protection strategies. This course provides an in-depth look at how cybersecurity professionals identify and defend against common cyber threats such as malware, ransomware, phishing, and social engineering attacks. Students learn how organizations secure data, systems, and networks using industry-standard tools and best practices, while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for today’s digital world.

Semester 1:  

In this semester, students explore essential cybersecurity principles including access management, network security, and endpoint protection. The course covers authentication methods, encryption basics, secure wireless networks, firewalls, VPNs, and vulnerability management, helping students understand how systems are protected from cyber threats. Students also learn how to assess cybersecurity risks, identify system vulnerabilities, and respond to security incidents through incident handling, digital forensics fundamentals, and security monitoring, while gaining an introduction to disaster recovery and business continuity planning. By the end of the course, students are prepared to recognize cybersecurity threats and understand how professionals respond to and manage real-world cybersecurity incidents.
