Course Overview:
In this Korean 4 online course, students will learn to convey their intended message without misrepresentation or confusion. Students will be able to narrate and describe a variety of communicative tasks in Korean and develop insight into Korean language and culture. Students will be exposed to authentic source materials which include poetry (시조), web pages, journalism, folktales, novels, music, TV shows, webtoons, and movies. The main grammatical focus of the course is the use of formal and informal discourse, Sino-Korean words, phrases describing the degree of action and two actions
indicating that the first action prevents the latter action from taking place, and phrases stating a reason.
The central themes of this course are Hallyu; political, historical, cultural, and social issues; policies; holidays; recreation; Korean arts; cultural interests and practices; work; regional characteristics; and cultural and professional plans. The student learning outcomes of this level are to be able to successfully handle complicated communication tasks and social situations requiring an exchange of information; debate topics related to Korean society and customs, Korean films, literature, music, and performance; express their opinion about school systems and education; identify some dialectal variations; and understand some proverbs and idiomatic expressions.
