Course Overview:

In the German 3 online course, students will build upon and increase their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the target language. In addition, students will develop cultural awareness and become prepared to encounter real life situations outside of the classroom through in-class discussions of videos, cultural customs and behavior, and by engaging with authentic materials. Grammar topics will include subordinating conjunctions, dependent clauses, and word order of compound and complex sentences. Other topics may include the use of German filler words and modal particles.

The central themes of the course are personal and world history, lifestyle, community, and environment. The student learning outcomes of this level are to be able to understand advertisements for services, such as a car repair; understand and follow instructions, such as a recipe or how to use an ATM; read and understand summaries of scientific or historical figures’ contributions to society; discuss rules and policies; and present a supported viewpoint on a topic of interest.
