Course Overview:

In this advanced Portuguese 4 online course, students will express their opinions and discuss a variety of topics, as well as talk about actions, events and conditions in the past, the present, and the future with certain fluency. The instructors will foster and support students’ growing ability to compare folklore and legends from Portuguese-speaking countries and identify cultural aspects and perspectives of Portuguese-speaking countries. The main grammatical focus of the course is the use of the present conjunctive verbs, the past perfect, the present perfect, the perfect preterit, the past participle, the

passive voice, the present, and future if-clauses.

The central themes of the course are health and medical matters, public health systems, social problems and digital exclusion in Portuguese-speaking countries, the Amazon Forest and NGO’s, legends and folklore, the natural environment, ethnic diversity, culture, books and authors, the internet and futuristic technologies. The student learning outcomes of this level are to be able to go to the doctor or a hospital in a Portuguese-speaking country, compare healthy and unhealthy food, send a formal or informal letter or a postcard to or from a Portuguese-speaking country, and hypothesize about future events.
